Invalid vehicle and assistance services abroad

If your vehicle is immobilised as a result of an accident, always contact your insurer’s assistance service. If you are at fault for the accident, you are usually entitled to assistance from the insurance company with which you have third party liability insurance. Or from the insurance company with which you took out additional insurance for towing before you travelled abroad.
Breakdown insurance usually covers towing of a broken-down, non-moving vehicle. The basic content of the assistance service includes: on-site vehicle repair, towing, storage of the vehicle, legal assistance, overnight accommodation and any necessary interpretation.
You should also call your insurer’s assistance service if you are unsure of the next course of action. As a general rule, do not accept offers of assistance from towing companies that “just happen” to be at the scene of the accident and are not contracted by your insurance company or the insurance company of the other party (at fault) in the accident.
If you do not know the details of the at-fault party’s liability insurance company, contact the Czech Insurance Office’s Information Centre (does it know which insurance company all foreign cars are insured with?)
